I created Stand Out Talent for all ages. Anyone, of any age, who wanted to come work and learn something in the process was welcome!
I have worked with children, in shows, as young as 3. All children are different and all are capable of different things at differing stages. My favorite thing to do is discovering how each one learns, so I’m able to chart their growth through the process.
I created this program in 2012 for ages 5-14. I have had as young as 3 participate in the camps. Campers come Monday - Friday 10-4 and Saturday 10-1.
Children learn Life Skills as well as Theatrical Skills. Parents have reported that their children perform better in school, are more organized and more social after participating in camps.
MONDAY: Getting to know you * Expectations of the week * Stage Terminology * Theatre Tour * Auditions * Theatre Games * Casting
TUESDAY: Read Thru * Block Entire Show
WEDNESDAY: Learn Songs * Learn Choreography
THURSDAY : Set Lights * Run Show multiple times makes sure everything is memorized, work on intention * Block bows
FRIDAY: Everything memorized * Hair and Makeup Done * Full Dress *Mics added * Professional Pictures Taken
SATURDAY: Hair and Makeup Done at Call Time * 1 to 2 performances for the public, dependent on the number of campers that week.
STAND OUT TALENT CLOSED IN 2018,
SIMPLY BECAUSE IT WAS TIME -
IT AND THE FAMILY CREATED ARE MISSED EVERYDAY.
Having a Multi Level, Thrust Stage in the 3/4, our sets needed to be minimal. Pieces were implied and the mood was set with paint, projections and carefully placed stationary set pieces.
I don’t ‘do’ traditional costuming. I like to stay representative but think further outside the box.
Creating looks with makeup is one of my guilty pleasures!
Creating a mood and environment with lights is awesome!
WHAT IS PERFORMANCE GROUP? A program created by Jennifer in 2005 and continued through 2020 until having to be canceled by the Pandemic. Performance Group is a group of individuals who show an interest in learning and doing more than the average theatre student/community theatre performer. Each student gets group and one on one attention in singing, dancing, acting, audition techniques, the difference between Stage and Screen, and proper resume format, accelerating their skills beyond their peers not in the group. Community ‘centric and performing at Tree Lighting Ceremonies, Festivals and Fairs.
IDEAL CANDIDATE? Performers who are willing to work hard, be a team player, who want to succeed and watch others do so as well, may participate. Participants must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA through their school. Director will be in constant communication with parents, as well as participants, to make sure success at school. This is paramount.
PARENTS ROLE: Director appreciates open lines of communication and does not tolerate gossip, division or derision within the group. If you have something to say, bring it to the director so a discussion may occur. Director likes to keep an open door policy with parents observing rehearsals when they wish. Director will not allow parents to ‘help’ or ‘aid’ while they sit at rehearsals. (You pay me to do a job, allow me to do it.) Parent is willing to take an active role in what your child/children are learning. If they know you care, they’ll work even harder. Director will need 1 parent volunteer to help with communication and be a coordinator when necessary. Director will choose. Parent’s be willing to help with fundraisers when necessary.
